Cien Años Book Jacket Design

Redesigning the classic with the present in mind

CHALLENGE

What would a special edition of Cien Años de Soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude) that reckons with the grave social and political crisis that began in Colombia in 2020, look like?

ROLE

Graphic designer

OUTPUT

A book jacket design that sheds the stereotypical Andean lushness to instead communicate the novel's underlying gloomy themes. Designed for fans and academics to reckon with during difficult times.

ACTIVITIES

Visual design, concept development

DETAILS

Inspired by botanical roots of cyanotype prints, the final jacket design subtly references orchids (Colombia’s national flower) and the country's riveting social decay.
