Fifteen: All-in-One Virus Rapid Test

Solving user and environment needs in a compact viral test

CHALLENGE

Think about the last time you took a rapid COVID-19 home test. Every brand has a different protocol, instructions can often be confusing, results can be unclear, and the amount of wasteful packaging is truly excessive. How might we reimagine an all-in-one Covid test that decreases waste, increases ease of use, and makes allowance for other diagnostics?

ROLE

User experience lead & prototype developer

OUTPUT

The Fifteen Home Testing Kit, which gets its name from the familiar viral test waiting period, is an all-in-one direct to consumer solution with easy-to-follow steps that fits seamlessly in a purse or back pocket.

ACTIVITIES

Survey writing and data analysis, competitor analysis, observational study leader, physical prototype development, visual design support.

IMPACT

This project was shortlisted in the Future Impact/Design category of 2023's Design and Advertising (D&AD) Awards. D&AD is the global benchmark for creative excellence in design and advertising, recognizing only the most innovative and influential projects that set industry trends since 1962.

Takeaways

1. Defining a clear strategy and target user groups is crucial for projects where opportunities abound. But championing that strategy is half of the job.

2. Creative ideation must lead to practical, cohesive product strategies.

3. All parts of a product (brand, features, and CMF) need to talk to each other.

Next steps

1. Focus on the most valuable aspect of the product for a specific user group, then refine the marketing strategy and packaging.
