Sips & Turpentine Identity

Refining the coffee shop image in the Starbucks era

CHALLENGE

My client sought to create a unique café experience on a London high street filled with impersonal coffee chains. How might a brand elevate coffee drinking to compete and appeal in this setting?

ROLE

Graphic designer

OUTPUT

A brand identity embodying the sensory experience of artisanal coffee. Sips & Turpentine uses motifs shared by fine art and café culture, such as a droplet in its logo to capture this duality. The design for all collateral and the website UX/UI emphasized refinement, spaciousness, and high-street life.

ACTIVITIES

Concept Development, brand Identity, website UX/UI

IMPACT

The quality of this project led me to quickly book work at a NYC brand studio and to Shillington Education's recognition as a distinguished cohort graduate.

Takeaways

1. Making and drinking artisanal coffee is a highly sensory experience: the smell, the taste, the touch. So is making art. This parallel between art and coffee-making became the basis for Sips & Turpentine, a coffee shop that embodies the ideal of a bespoke, sensory, and crafted coffee experience.

Next steps

1. Expand the brand further into other shop products and motion work to make the world of this coffee shop come to life even more.
